A Sisterhood
Trinjhan -the first Massachusetts Sikh Women's Gathering is a dynamic event aimed at fostering unity, empowerment, and a strong sense of sisterhood among Sikh women aged 16 to 99 years in our state. The event offers a platform for attendees to connect, share experiences, gain knowledge, and inspire each other on their unique journeys. With a focus on embracing our unique cultural identity, building confidence, and fostering leadership, the event will empower Sikh women to overcome challenges and thrive in today's world.
Traditionally Trinjhan would be a gathering of village women in the house of an elder and while doing household chores such as spinning yarn, or mending clothes. This gathering would help the women discuss their lives and experiences thus creating friendships, opportunities for mentorship and pooling knowledge. Areas within the women’s sphere of influence would be discussed, and hopefully solutions found to their problems. At the very least it would be a way to unburden oneself in a safe supportive environment hence yielding mental health benefits through a form of group therapy.
As many of us have moved to a new country and new contexts such opportunities have been lost or need to be recreated in new and novel ways.
